Step 1 - eCN. The electronic consignment note (ConsignmentNoteMessage) is the foundational freight transport document that the lead railway undertaking issues and distributes. The intermodal terminal receives it to understand the cargo it will handle before the train arrives - ILU identifiers, dangerous goods declarations, and wagon-level loading/unloading instructions are all embedded in the eCN.
